Pilates for C-Section

Common concerns after a Caesarian Section can include:

Wondering if your recovery is 'normal' compared with others.
Wondering if it 'normal' to feel aches and pain weeks after the surgery.

Difficulties with day to day tasks eg lifting the baby in the car seat, or lifting the baby from the ground.

Concerns about whether it is 'normal' to have a weakness in your pelvic floor following a Caesarian section delivery.

Concerns about being the 'weakest' person in the regular

postnatal class.

Concerns that not all of the exercises in the regular postnatal class may be appropriate for you.

Fear of causing internal muscle or tissue 'damage' in a general exercise class.

Wondering whether you may have an increased risk of pelvic girdle pain or musculoskeletal pain in future pregnancies if your 'core remains weak' after your Caesarian section delivery.

It is clear that a lot of the terminology surrounding these deliveries can be fear-inducing and stressful in themselves.

A well trained Pilates teacher will approach the recovery process with a positive and problem solving attitude.

The surgery is over and now it is time to focus on recovery and regaining your self confidence in your body!

You may feel that you can relate to some of the above common concerns- or you may simply wish to start your rehabilitation from the Caesarian Section in an organised and rounded manner in a safe environment with a trained Pilates teacher.

Look for a specific Postnatal Pilates classes for Caesarian Section Recovery or Mothers & babies with no more than 6 mothers in the class to facilitate individual attention.

There are classes that your baby is welcome to join you during the class- either in his car seat/pram or beside you on the mat. With facilities available should you need to change or feed your baby.

Choose a relaxed atmosphere and don't worry if your baby is a little out of sorts during the class.
