Raw Vegan Food Combining

This is just a small article to show you how I combine my food. I am not a nutritionist, so just do whatever it works for you. I always take into consideration these two topics after eating a meal:

1) How I feel afterwards (energized)

2) How long it takes for the whole digestion to take place (elimination)

Liquids:

I love having my drinks first thing in the morning.

I start my day with a cup of warm water with fresh 1/2 lemon juice.

After it, I enjoy having cold water (750 ml) followed by freshly made fruit and vegetable juice (750 ml).

My drink intake do not stop here. I make a fruit smoothie (750 ml) before I have a big bowl of fruit. I keep drinking more water through the day to hydrate my body.

Fresh Fruits:

Mono-meals (one fruit or vegetable at the time) are the best in terms of speed digestion. The way I see it and can explain it to you is, if your body is not using so much energy to digest your meal, that 'spare' energy goes into your 'brain'. Hence the great mental clarity on a raw vegan plant based lifestyle. Try and observe how you feel after a meal.

Watermelons & Melons:

I love eating my watermelon after drinking all my juice and smoothie.  I eat it by itself as it is very quick to digest. After I finish it, I attack my melons. I usually have 1/2 of a watermelon and 1/2 of a melon before I eat the other fruits.

Sub-acid fruits:

Peach, pears, apples, berries, mango, apricot, papaya, plum (the list goes on).

All these delicious fruits can be eaten by themselves or you can also combine them with sweet fruits, greens and acid fruits.

Acid Fruits:

Grapefruits, oranges, pineapples, tomatoes, lemons and other delicious acids fruits are OK to be eaten with greens,  and sub-acids fruits. Sometimes I mix them with fats like avocados and tomatoes or avocados and lemons, especially when I make my Zucchini pasta sauce.

Sweet Fruits:

I just love these Sweet Fruits Babies like bananas, I am truly a monkey. Or dates, it is my new passion. You can make so many desserts or smoothies with them. They are usually OK to be eaten with sub-acid fruits and greens. However, I sometimes mix my dates with coconut. It is so delicious and a great combination.

Greens:

I LOVE my greens. It is an amazing experience to taste vegetables and herbs in their natural state. Each green has a unique taste that you can only realize if you eat them raw.

The greens can be usually eaten with most of the other food categories. I love adding nuts & seeds during my green meals, such as a Zucchini Pasta or a Big Salad Bowl. It is a great opportunity to get your fat intake. Just be aware that if you do add fat into your meals it will slow down your digestion. I usually have my fat intake in the evenings when I do not need to feel energised.

I also love adding a little bit of green in my morning juices, like cucumber, spinach or cabbage. They are great channels for your daily protein intake. So GO Green.

Dried Fruits:

They are best eaten by themselves. I usually have lots of water well before and after I eat dried fruits (maybe drink water one hour before/after eating them). Sometimes they are sold with nuts, but I am not very keen to eat them together, due to the lack of water in the dried fruits and the digestion speed of the nuts. It is just me, I am not a qualified nutritionist, so check what works for you and listen to your body.

Fats:

Nuts, seeds, coconut, avocados. These amazing, healthy and delicious sources of fat can be a great tool for you to manage your weight if you are on a raw vegan plant based lifestyle. If you think you are too thin, add a bit more of these foods into your diet. And if you wish to lose some weight, just  reduce their intake. Healthy fats can be eaten with greens.

Another great and important factor I like to check if certain foods are good for me is by checking my teeth after eating them. If teeth are clean after eating them, I imagine that colon will be clean after digesting them. I usually prefer high water content food.

I hope this food combining article was helpful to you.
